Toitū Envirocare has verified our carbon intensity methodology and underlying data for use by Simply Energy in their new Carbon IQ service. The data also drives the carbon emissions dial on our primary dashboard and historic carbon intensity API feed.
Businesses using Carbon IQ can report their electricity emissions using the location-based methodology and access a half-hourly breakdown of its emissions for incorporating into its reporting for Toitū carbon certification programmes.
This new method raises the bar for emission reporting practices in New Zealand by providing a more accurate alternative to using annual grid emissions factors. Electricity emissions fluctuate constantly with changes in the generation mix, and annual factors lag behind the current reporting period.
By understanding the true impact of their electricity use, businesses can realise cost and carbon savings by shifting usage to periods when renewable electricity generation is high.
